 What is Doubt in Faith?

Doubt in faith is a mental confusion that occupies mind about the pillars of faith such as the existence of God and the hereafter and that can result in denial in the event that it proceeds.

How Do Doubts Hamper Faith?

As doubts in faith emerge through the weakness of belief in the pillars of faith, in order to be a real Muslim, they should definitely be removed. Because, doubts lead to commit sins and haram actions easily. As long as the doubts are not removed, sins will turn into irresistible habits and it will get harder and harder to give up with time. In this case, as human is inherently good doer, he will feel the pressure of his conscience caused by his false actions. As for a person who is addicted to sins, it is extremely difficult to give up the sins, in order to get rid of this suffering; he will try to find escape ways to relax such as “Perhaps there isn’t an order like this, perhaps there isn’t a hereafter that I’ll be judged. Maybe, Allah does not see me every time.” And so on. Thus, doubts cause weakness, weakness lead to sins; sins turn to addiction, and the difficulty to abandon a addiction leads to deny; the denial of the orders of the good deeds, then the Almighty who orders the good and the Almighty who will judge the wrongs and the hereafter where the wrong doers will be judged, therefore, it is essential for every Muslim to remove his doubts by increasing his Islamic knowledge strengthen his iman. This is the way from the doubts to denial in a nutshell.

In the Quran, there are many ayahs stating that believers should abstain doubt

“Those unto whom We gave the Scripture (aforetime) know that it is revealed from thy Lord in truth. So be not thou (O Muhammad) of the waverers.” (Surah Anam, 114)

“And if thou (Muhammad) art in doubt concerning that which We reveal unto thee, then question those who read the Scripture (that was) before thee. Verily the Truth from thy Lord hath come unto thee. So be not thou of the waverers.” (Surah al Hujurat, 15)
