What Is the Reward for I’tikaf?

What is the reward for I’tikaf?

Sins of the one who is in the state of I’tikaf are confined

Ibn Abbas narrated that Rasulullah (saw) said:

This person’s sins who is in I’tikaf are confined and deeds are written into his book as if he is doing them.
(Ibn majah, Jamu’l Fawaid)
The persons who secludes himself (in the Masjid in I’tikaf) in true faith and hope (for the reward of Allah), all of his previous sins shall be forgiven.” (Kanzul Ummal, Hadith 24007)

The person who is in i’tikaf keeps away from the sins

Hadhrat Ibn Abbas RA reported that Rasullullah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said, (about him who engages in i’tikaf), “that he is safe from sin and he also gets that reward which everyone (outside i’tikaf) gets for pious deeds.” (Ibn Majah)
Whoever does i’tikaf is like he freed a slave, he gains the thawab of freeing a slave. (Tanwir)

I’tikaf raises the degree of the person

Rasulullah (saw) said: I saw Othman when I came to the fifth heaven in Miraj, I asked him “how did you gain this degree?” he said: “I gained this decree doing i’tikaf in masjid.” (Manakib-i Jihar-i Yari Guzin)

Performing I’tikaf brings two hajj thawaab

“He who observes the ten days I’tikaf during Ramadhan will obtain the thawaab of two Hajj and two Umrah.” (Bayhaqi)

I’tikaf for the sake of Allah keeps away from Jahannam

Whosoever for Allah’s sake did even one days i’tikaf, Allah would keep him away from Jahannam by trenches.” (Tabarani)
One of the virtues of I’tikaf , is the seeking and engaging in worship seeking Laylatul Qadr. Hadrat Abu Said Khudri (ra) reports that Rasullullah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam once performed I’tikaf for the first ten days of Ramadan. Thereafter he made I’tikaf in a Turkish tent (inside the masjid) for the middle ten days. Thereafter he raised his head out of the tent and said, “Verily in search of Laylatul Qadr did I perform I’tikaf for the first ten days, then for the middle ten days…….”(Mishkat)
